How many ministers' children go to national schools?

After a deafening silence, the MCA has finally spoken out in favour of English in the teaching of maths and science.

The party is considering making several proposals to the cabinet to enhance the teaching of English subjects in vernacular primary schools. They also want English be retained as the medium of instruction for the two subjects in Forms 4 and 5.

As an English-educated Chinese, I’m of the opinion that the MCA panders to the needs of those Mandarin speaking folks and pays lukewarm response to the others.

When the government decided to revert to Bahasa Malaysia in the teaching of maths and science, many parents irrespective of race, whose children are now in primary school were horrified.

In their minds, the government had succumbed to the demands of these language extremists and we are fully aware of who they are.

The joke is that those who were responsible for formulating some key education policies probably send their own children overseas or to international and private schools.

Do tell me how many of our ministers' children actually attends our national schools?

A poll conducted by our former PM showed how people felt about the move and this will continue to be an election issue if nothing is done to address this problem.

The standard of English is already in the dumps. Yet, efforts to promote its usage are met with so much resistance by certain quarters for their own selfish and suspicious agendas.

I would like the government to take the bull by the horns and do what is right for our younger generation rather than pacify certain selfish groups and individuals.

Bring back English-medium schools like we used to have until the mid-70s and see how many parents would be lining up to enrol their children into these schools.
