I refer to the letter Ong said he would resign, so resign he must . That statement was a like an interpreting an election result, but is it?

In an election, the voters select one person of their choice. The outcome of the voting at the recent MCA EGM would have been different had the resolutions been properly drafted .

Should the EGM results be based on the intention of the majority of the voters or a few of them through technical faults?

Ong Tee Keat declared that he would resign if he lost the vote. He erred in making that declaration which did not amount to making a promise to perform. In elections, politicians promised to be clean and do all sorts of things.

If those sort of slogans are said to be words of honour, like Abdullah Ahmad Badawi saying that he was a prime minister for all Malaysians, and Najib Abdul Razak making the same claim, they should have been asked to resign.

Is the writer saying that voting results are easy to check while actions by the prime minster can have different interpretations?

The Youth and Wanita chiefs of the MCA said that Ong was on the verge of resigning his post on Oct 10 after the results had been announced. This because he did not analyse the results or he did not realise that he almost fell into the trap.

When Ong said that he would resign based on the EGM’s results, this did not bring him any advantage in securing more votes. Those who chose to support him would not get any reward for casting their votes.

Those who wanted to remove obstacles in their career paths actually voted against him as well as against Chua Soi Lek whom they wanted to remove. Ong can be accused of being overconfident of his support and of boasting of his thoughts out aloud.

He, however, realised the trickery in time and he has now to suffer the indignity of people condemning him for not following the convention. But he would be doing the party and the community he is said to represent a disservice if he took the easy way out in resigning.

It is indeed more difficult to stay on and fight realizing now that he is actually being surrounded by ‘friendly enemies’ who might take up the ‘invitation’ by Umno leaders.

Malaysians wonder why PM Najib established a task force to ‘take care’ of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue. If Umno interferes in MCA’s affairs, the answer is confirmed.
