I write with reference to the many pages and hours of article that many online portals have committed towards the Perkasa movement and Ibrahim Ali.

I believe it is the wrong strategy to demonise them and make them a hate figure. History has shown that that sort of approach will never work. Look at what they tried to do to Anwar Ibrahim and the rest is history and they still have not learned.

Many years ago when British National party was making headway there was massive call in the UK to ban the movement so that it does not stir up racial sentiments. At that time, I thought it was the wrong approach and few years later that thinking was proven correct. The party went into oblivion as people just ignored them.

Similarly, when Hindraf was formed, if the government wanted to sideline them, then the last thing they should have done was to use ISA on them. That was silly. Now Perkasa bares its fangs and fluff its wings. Leave them be to their devices, it will die a natural death.

We must remember that if we really believe in democracy and the use of ISA is draconian, then we should not wish those on our enemy as well. We must always hold true to our beliefs. We should not be pushing for this. Two wrongs will not make a right.

Perkasa won’t last; it is just a short-term distraction for Ibrahim Ali who has nothing better to do. It will die its natural death if we just ignore them, just like Abim and GPMS and many others.

They are nobodies in the general scheme of things. Getting Dr Mahathir Mohamad to officiate their functions is proof that they begin by being in the past and are a spent force. That in itself is an irony. Doesn’t anyone think it is funny that the movement for Malay rights was launched by someone who is not a pure Malay, if one believes what all is written everywhere?

Mahathir miscalculated by putting Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as PM in thinking he can pull the strings from behind him. That did not work and the old man is bitter to date. Outside Malaysia, no one cares and remembers him. The only newsworthy item linking him to outside Malaysia was the launching of a Proton car at a motor show and in KL asking for Tony Blair to be prosecuted for war crimes.

Malay rights have not been compromised or eroded by the non-Malays. They have been eroded by the Malays themselves. The government doesn’t care about Malay rights or well-being; it is only interested in looking after those who are loyal and allied to them. That why Kelantan, which is mainly Malay, does not get any joy out of its petroleum revenue.

Our local cars are expensive, toll rates keep rising, electricity and water rates keep going up and when transferring vehicle ownership, one needs to put up with an extremely hassling process at Puspakom. Public transport is getting expensive by day.

All these are controlled by the Malays. It is the upper class Malays who are benefitting from the misfortunes of many poor Malays as well as non-Malays.

Why is the government reluctant to buy back Plus and reduce the toll rates? Plus is making millions in profit and if government buys it back, then the toll rates can be reduced as then there is no need to make profits - just cover the operating and interest servicing. But this will never happen as Plus is a cash cow serving many interests and pockets.

Many Malay Muslim find it difficult to get a place to do their pilgrimage once in a lifetime to Mecca but some privileged ones go very often.

Many government initiatives that have added to the increase in the cost of living are controlled by Malays, not the non-Malays. Am many are perfectly aware of this. What we need to do is answer all the accusations objectively and correctly. Don’t attack the messenger, attack the issue.

Leave Perkasa and Ibrahim Ali alone for in a few months, the people will be wondering who Ibrahim Ali was. And they’ll think Perkasa was an armed security guards company.
