I like the statement by Zaid Ibrahim that 'sometimes winning is also a problem, because then you will start dreaming.' I suppose he was referring to the gains made by the opposition especially the PKR at the last general election.

After its dismal showing in the 2004 general election, PKR bounced back in the following general election in 2008 which could have resulted in its party members getting too excited and hence their lofty battle-cry of being on "the road to Putrajaya."

I feel it is quite an arrogant statement and it did generate a stern response from the PM himself that BN will defend Putrajaya at all cost.

Since then, PKR has been weakened considerably due to defections and internal bickering.

The opposition coalition should appreciate the support given by the people when it won five states but due to internal bickering and party hopping the BN regained one state by default.

Sadly, that's politics in Malaysia where party hopping, though despicable is not illegal, in fact it is encouraged.

Remember the antics of a leader in the PKR in trying to entice several BN MPs to jump ship which fortunately did not materialise?

In politics, the opposition should be aware that whatever gains they had made can be lost at the next general election. The same goes for the ruling coalition. Neither can take the people's votes for granted.

Instead, the opposition alliance should concentrate on retaining the four states currently in their control, as it is still the people who will decide if they had done a good job or not in administering these four states.

Forget about Putrajaya, you are not ready yet!
