The concept of ketuanan Melayu , which was brought into Umno by Mahathir Mohamad in 1969 or thereabouts, has resulted in some Malays having an air of invincibility and arrogance about them.

This concept has also given these people a dislike for anything non-Malay and non-Muslim.

This sense of arrogance and invincibility brought about by this ketuanan Melayu concept has resulted in the emergence of such sub cultures as the mat rempit ; the new dare-devil type robber gangs undertaken by Malay youths.

It has spread to so many other places in government service too, where service to the non-Malay is looked upon as a favour rendered by the staff.

This has also resulted in the moulding of a culture that has little or no regard for the rights of others. The usual line is that others have to be ‘tolerant’ even when their legitimate rights are stamped upon, and not to question. If one does, it amounts to "questioning Malay rights."

There are lots of ways in which some of these Malays take advantage of this ketuanan Melayu concept; they have been indoctrinated that this is their country and their country alone and the others are here at their generosity. This has become a subculture amongst the Umno Malays.

But you'll never experience this in Kelantan, where you are treated with warmth and respect by the majority.

The ketuanan Melayu has now crept into another dimension, the culture of invincibility is being brought to the streets to test the police force, and the police force itself has allowed its credibility to diminish under this same policy.

Unless this is addressed, we are about to see the emergence of an extreme right wing Malay youths, quite like the Nazis, that will hit the streets in the not too distant future.
