I refer to the news report on Umno general assembly entitled "Hand over winnable seats to Umno" and wish to point out that Umno has again shown its bigheadedness over seat allocations to the dislike of component parties.
Umno leaders from top to bottom seem to think that their candidates could easily succeed in areas where other component parties have failed.
On the contrary, in areas where Umno's candidates have failed, they also think that they are capable of claiming victory come the next general election.
So it looks like one way thinking, winnable candidates only belong to Umno not other component parties.
In short, after pushing forward the criteria of "winnable" candidates, Umno has gone further by applying the criteria of "winnable" areas/constituencies, attempting to increase its political representation at the expense of component parties.
This is the true intention of Umno; say one thing do another.
No doubt BN components are weak in terms of electoral appeal but is Umno so receptive to the rakyat?
Has Umno undergone so much transformation that the rakyat is beginning to feel warm towards it?
I would say that Umno delegates are blowing their own trumpets to propagate the idea of winnable candidates and areas, so that other component parties willingly submit to Umno's demands.
For all intents and purposes, general elections are so different from party elections.
The same analogy could be drawn on party forum versus public forum. For all said and done during Umno assembly, most of the rhetoric was not more than self praise ( syok sendiri ) devoid of substance and content.
The once formidable BN has been obviously weakened because of Umno's own doing.
Umno leaders are generally lacking in appeal, uttering words and sentences to the dislike of the rakyat.
Umno still believes that they are strong and winnable, simply because of syok sendiri syndrome that has infected the party.
Before the general assembly, Umno delegates have been cautioned against hurting the feelings of other people.
As a caution had been issued before hand, the non-Malays were spared from verbal attacks. However, in order to find something to talk about, they start attacking the component parties.
It is as if Umno is party fond of saying nasty things about any non-Umno Malaysians and non-Umno political followers.
The delegates must understand that they are speaking in a party forum, surrounded by a partisan audience. It is so easy to provoke laughter and applause.
However if the same sentences and words were uttered in another public forum, the average Malaysians would not buy them.
If Umno is so strong and so winnable, then it should just proceed to dissolve Parliament right now.
After all, it is Umno president and prime minister that holds the constitutional right to trigger the dissolution of Parliament.
There can be no better way to find out who is stronger across the electoral front than a nationwide polling.
