The general election is definitely looming around the corner. Just see how our prime minister and the deputy prime minister have been travelling all over the country to touch base with the people.

Being the incumbents they are also in a position to dish out financial goodies to the people.

The opposition too is not to be outdone by the government of the day. They have been going around the country though not as extensively as the PM and the DPM, holding ceramah and fund raising dinners.

While the government is able to disburse funds to the people whenever it feels the need to do so the people somehow do seem a bit sympathetic towards the opposition.

At these opposition's ceramah and fund raising dinners the people are quite generous and they willingly contribute knowing very well that the opposition's war chest is paltry compared to that of the incumbent government.

Also the mainstream media is often deemed biased towards the government, therefore whatever issues that the opposition may have against the government needs to be conveyed to the people through these ceramahs and dinner gatherings.

Of course the alternative media does play a role in disseminating information to the people but how big an impact it has is not really known as many of rural folk are still without internet connection.

Controversial issues especially those that tinges on corrupt practices are made worse when it involves ministers and their family members.

This is a certain vote loser in the eyes of the electorate and the government had better put a check into this otherwise the result in the coming general election could be devastating to say the least.

In fact, there are cases where politicians were seen to have enriched themselves excessively much to the chagrin of their political masters whose hand seems to be tied down due to their influence in their respective parties.

In our country, the notion of ministerial responsibility is an alien word. Much as we want to emulate the east in the daily functioning of the government, resigning from one's exalted position due to a cock-up is not on the agenda.

These people would hold on desperately and wish the whole mess would go away and hope the people will have short memories.

Sadly for them, with the Internet these worrisome issues will not go away easily. It will continue to haunt those affected by it and as such their political career could be derailed because of this.

Besides corrupt politicians the people certainly do not want those who use race and religion just to get ahead. These types of pseudo-nationals should be rejected outright.
