KL mayor has forgotten he serves the people

DBKL's behaviour over the past week with regard to the student protest and the upcoming Bersih rally proves only one thing.

The fact that the datuk bandar and DBKL officials in general are appointed by the federal government, and not elected, has made them arrogant and abusive.

DBKL has forgotten it is working for KL residents, who have almost unanimously voted for opposition MPs.

It is undemocratic that over a million citizens have no right to select a datuk bandar of their choice, who will understand he or she is a public servant and not a privileged warlord.

This privilege of being installed by their political masters and not by the voters' will has made DBKL a body that is alien to KLites.

As readers have pointed out, DBKL does not represent the voice of KLites.

They are acting like our colonial masters, evident in the way they handle not just Bersih, but even in routine activities like the KL draft plan or even in mundane tasks like controlling hawkers and dishing out parking fines.

The undemocratic local government goes about thinking they are lords of the residents. They do not fear our voice nor will they listen to our complaints. They only serve their bosses in Putrajaya.

Perhaps Pakatan should tell KLites what is in store for us should they take over. Are they willing to give KL back to its people and let us elect our own councillors and datuk bandar?

Perhaps if this were true today, Bersih would not need to fight an arrogant DBKL just so we can gather at Dataran, a place where all and sundry have been gathering without permits.
