Can the RM 40mil cash issue be settled so easily?

Although the issue of the recently surfaced and questionable RM40 million cash as reported in the news, has been cleared by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, I wonder if a minister has the power to do that.

Aren't there any laws pertaining to the legality of contributions to political parties?

It is still hard to understand why there was no further investigation.

Everyone knows the next election is just around the corner.

Coincidentally, the US is also having a closely fought presidential election between the incumbent President Barrack Obama and former governor Mitt Romney.

In order to run a campaign successfully, all politicians need funds. There is no exception anywhere in the world, including Malaysia and the US.

While Malaysian political parties keep their party contribution details like secret societies, it is an eye opener to see that in the US presidential campaign, all the contributions (including contributors' names, amounts, etc) can be easily obtained by the public.

Just do a simple search on internet websites such as the Federal Election Commission or OpenSecrets.org and all the information just spits out for everyone to see, nothing to hide.

I wonder why the same thing cannot be done here.

The funny thing is our government recently was making such a fuss about foreign funds donated to Suaram, yet at the same time closing one eye on a much bigger amount contributed to a political party.

This makes no sense to me.
