Young sex bloggers a sign of societal breakdown

Our young adults are once again creating headlines through their actions and exhibiting the values they uphold.

The most recent being the posting of sexual encounters by a Malaysian law student on his blog.

What used to be a form of blackmail not so long ago, is now of mutual consent by the couple as their contribution to society. If this trend continues, pornographic sites would go out of business!

While the Internet provides the freedom to express oneself, one must exercise this gift responsibly.

We must use our conscience and think before we indulge in our fantasies. Will our actions contribute positively or negatively to the morality of society as a whole?

If attention is a latent need, wouldn't it be better served by being the best lawyer in Malaysia upholding justice for the poor on a pro bono basis?

I believe there is more respect and dignity this way. This act by the couple is regressive to mankind as it places us on par with animals which do not exercise self control and shamelessly give in to their sexual urges in public.

What then differentiates man from animal?

This and other social problems we see are mere symptoms of a deeper problem facing our society today.

We need to find the root problem. The moral decay in our Malaysian society did not happen overnight. We need to view the problem holistically as every facet is a contributory factor.

Has our education system helped provide the correct knowledge and shaped the minds of our young adequately about reproduction and responsible sex?

Has the mass media used the power it has to discuss this delicate topic objectively with authority in print or the air waves? Has our religious institutions played its role to guide our children morally and not just focused on going to Heaven?

As parents, we are ultimately responsible for the way our children turn out. Have we played our role to be there for them throughout their adolescence years, especially, to guide and answer the many questions they have about life in general and sex?

Have we explained to them that sex is something sacred and beautiful and not dirty? There is however a right time and place for it in our lives.

We have to collectively play our roles if we are to be on track again, morally, in society. It is fruitless being acclaimed a developed nation if morally and religiously we are in shambles. We would then be a country without a soul!
