I read that plans for the Penang Outer Ring Road will affect residents in Penang and Butterworth. I really wonder if these town-planners think it can resolve traffic woes on the island.

Ring roads and super-highways will just move the traffic jams from one spot to another, and make the island city more chaotic.

The better solution would be to improve the public transport system for the island so that more cars are not added to the congested roads. An efficient and affordable system Instead of tar-roads and destructing heritage in the name of progress.

Since more and more cars come on the road, the only solution is keep them off the road!

Have a look at Singapore where there is a fantastic public transport system. Create more parking spaces and close the whole centre to traffic except for inhabitants.

There will be lots of grumbling at first, but with a good transport system (not run by cronies who want to fill their pockets) everybody will accept it in a short time.

And it would be healthy if people walk a bit.
