• Unintelligible nod for hudud

  • I have been reading letters and articles on your website on hudud (Islamic penal code). I note that there are several comments emphasising the fact that if the majority Malay-Muslim in Kelantan and Terengganu want hudud law, they should have it as they have voted for PAS.

I think this is not a very intelligent point to make. It is like saying if a 'majority' (under the first past the post system) choose the Barisan Nasional coalition to rule, then we are supposed to have accepted anything that this government has done and will do in the name of 'majority government'.

We wonder why we have not heard from the people of Kelantan and Terengganu on this. It is quite possible that any government does not yet matter to them. It could be the apathy of Muslims. Thus it could be any number of reasons. Whether PAS should speak for the people is another point altogether.
