Dr Syed Alwi Ahmad issued a challenge to his detractors to prove that Malaysia is not a Muslim country. I'm not one of his detractors. I don't know him and have nothing against him, but I do have a couple of comments that I would like to make with regard to his challenge.

First of all, in his letter, he mentioned that PAS president, Abdul Hadi Awang denies that Malaysia's constitution is Islamic. Perhaps Dr Syed Alwi would care to clarify his notion of a Muslim country before throwing down the gauntlet?

On another note, what does he have to say about draconian laws like ISA? Does he think ISA is Islamic? Forty learned scholars don't seem to think so. In fact, not only is ISA un-Islamic, it is also un-Christian, un-Buddhist, un-Hindu, and simply un-humanist.
