I am writing about a water catchment area used for fishing in Ara Damansara and it is attracting mosquitoes as well as the developers having a makeshift home for contractors next to the condo, which poses a security threat and is probably illegal.

The affected area is shown in the map below. The exact location is along the Jalan PJU 1A/4 and is a plot of land used to park lorries and other construction vehicles as well as a settlement which appears temporary but due to the low wall of surrounding condominiums, i.e. Puncak Sri Kelana and Puncak Nusa Kelana, this poses a security threat to the residents who fear that crime amongst other illegal activities could sprout from this area.

There are claims of illegal settlements in that area as well as illegal workers occupying and staying in structures they have built. They keep pets including birds and dogs presumably without licenses and may carry diseases.

The pond area shown on the map is used for pay pond fishing. The pond water looks very murky and there are many spots of water around that area which are ideal breading grounds for mosquitoes.

The drainage in the area is also clogged with litter and other obstacles that make water flow stagnant. The entire area needs to be cleaned up by the land owner and PJ City Council (MBPJ) and tested for dengue mosquitoes.

With the many construction sites in this area, there has been a sudden increase in the number of mosquitoes in the area.  Private fogging is a very interim and expensive measure. The developers and land owners should ensure their land is clear and rid of such diseases

I have pictures to show the area is overgrown and the drain area clogged. The street is always littered and has many potholes that are a hazard when driving. When it rains the potholes are covered with water making it even more dangerous for vehicles especially motorcyclists.

Illegal stalls have been set up along the curb. Construction material is just haphazardly placed and the area is used as a dumping ground.

This hazardous area is only 20 - 30 metres from the two public schools.

There was an outbreak of fires in the past at the same location. This area being a fire hazard with other buildings in its vicinity make it very dangerous and surprisingly nothing has been done by the authorities.

A nearby resident who has recorded the fire at the adjacent piece of land also noticed that the fire brigade left right after the fire was put out and the illegal structure that was razed in the fire was rebuilt a week later.

There should have been some form of follow up and investigation by the fire department to ensure that the same fire hazards do not reoccur.

There are barrels that look like oil and large fuel containers placed close to the walls of neighbouring condominiums. A fire so close to high rise buildings can cause hot smoke and embers to ignite other flammable material. If these embers are blown into neighbouring condominium units this could cause the fire to spread.

Nearby residents have called MBPJ many times but nothing has been done. Jabatan Alam Sekitar (the Department of Environment) has also been contacted to complain about the constant open burning and these calls have been ignored.

With the haze conditions now, this should have been looked into immediately. The occupants in the identified plot of land are conducting open burning on a daily basis throughout the day and night.

MBPJ should have demolished this construction as it is not fit for occupancy and is a hazard. The police and immigration department should conduct a thorough investigation of the area and identify the occupants if they are illegals and take necessary action.

The developer and land owner should be held accountable as well, for harboring potential illegals and for the incidents discussed above.
