I have never taken the mass transit and so today, I decided to try the KTM Komuter train.

I noted that one could not find a map for the train, or the LRT network at the station, on the platforms or on the train itself. I did not check the LRT stations but I could not find such maps at the KTM ones.

Now, the LRT and Komuter trains have been running for many years; and are supposed to be an integrated circuit although there are at least five different service providers which really beats me!

Anyway, it is a basic requirement that commuters should be able to determine exactly how the networks interact so they can plan their trips and this information should be easily available at the stations, the platforms and on the trains themselves.

Just take a look at the MRT in Singapore to see how information is easily available at the stations, the platforms and on the trains .

I also wonder how the routes are planned. MidValley Megamall is a huge conurbation and yet there is no KTM or LRT station to serve the area although lines pass by in close proximity.

Instead one finds stations in much less busy places such as near Amcorp Mall and at Plaza Pantai. Do the network planners have any economic sense at all?

It seems to me that the administrators of the lines have not even bothered with basic requirements.

Will our bureaucrats ever get this right or must it take a directive from the prime minister himself before some common sense goes into the mass transit system?
