No reason to deny ‘Pravin’ citizenship

The story of Pravin Prasad is touching.

Although he is doing well with his studies, there is no reason why the government should deny him of citizenship on the basis that his parents’ marriage was not registered in Malaysia.

There are many marriages that are registered elsewhere. So, what’s the real big deal? I am not surprised that some of our local politicians have a couple of other marriages registered outside the country.

Given the kind of logic presented by the Home Affairs Ministry, does that mean that any child born out of wedlock would be denied of citizenship?

It is no wonder why there are so many cases of unborn babies being dumped away by their mothers. After all, these innocent lives did not choose to be born into this cruel adult world.

The Home Affairs Minister, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, should interfere in the decision made by his ministry.

We have read so much about Project IC in Sabah. What is one additional person being added to our citizenship roll?

If foreigners including Ahmad Zahid himself, born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia (refer this interview on TV), could obtain their citizenship that easily, there is no reason to deprive one young Indian boy who will be turning 16 on July 8.

The honourable minister, if he is deserving his honour, should instruct the Home Affairs Ministry to withdraw the case and do the necessary to issue Pravin his MyKad, rather than allowing this process to drag further.

This one issue about stateless Indians has been harped upon by Hindraf, with whom Najib Abdul Razak had signed an agreement prior to the Election 2013. Even if Zahid chooses not to act, if Najib as prime minister cannot intervene, where then is his credibility, I wonder!
