Ease pressure of inter-faith misunderstanding

Dear Sardar Jagir Singh, president, Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST)

Well done!

I am proud of your very clear and assertive statement . I am sure the members of the majlis and many right-thinking Malaysians including fair-minded Muslims will welcome your statement.

The Joint Council of Believers/Followers of Different Faiths which includes both Muslims and non-Muslims will sit in common chambers and jointly sit for hours or days or even weeks and have a frank heart-to-heart discussion to find solutions to the numerous pending issues.

The process must continue from time to time and make attempts to solve disputes internally, thus, avoiding unpleasant publicity.

In the meantime, the two ministers in the cabinet under the Prime Minister’s Department, viz, under the Islam and National Unity portfolios must have their own mutual meetings internally to avoid dispute of an inter-faith nature.

I also appeal to the prime minister to do everything possible within his means to smooth down the pressure of inter-faith misunderstanding.

A VAITHILINGAM is former president of MCCBCHST.
