Proton cars fail to get rave reviews from buyers

I write to comment on the argument put forth in the letter by Muzammil Haji Daud ( ' Monumental problems for Proton ' ). Yes, without much hesitation, I fully agree with your statement on why the rakyat have the prevailing mentality of favouring foreign products. In fact, I do share the same train of thought. But I am not against Malaysian products.

First and foremost, every reason has an explanation and every tree has its roots. As a matter of fact, I intended to get myself a Proton upon my graduation later this year. So I personally checked with most of my friends who have a Proton car. To my sheer disbelief and horror, all of them dissuaded me from buying a Proton. Why you might ask? For a simple reason - most of the things are not right, from the car itself to the after-sales services.

So isn't this evidence enough to show why people actually prefer other marques? People are willing to pay a higher price for a product with higher quality and of course, which comes with better service. Therefore the second problem that you mentioned is merely a consequence of the first problem.

As Not A Proton Fan has stated ( ' Another horror story on Proton ' ), if the Proton management don't pull up their socks, I am afraid that our future generation will only read about Proton in the history books.
