The MH17 tragedy is sad, calamitous and distressing. I extend my condolences to the grieving next of kin. The media continues to give full coverage to the tragic event. It is this media coverage that I want to comment on.

The high-profile patrons lay down the policy for those who control the media which then select the audience.

The sensationalism of the MH17 tragedy has swept across the globe like a tsunami. Almost 300 people were immolated by an unseen hand.

Another tragedy far more devastating in an on-going holocaust gets scant attention in the media. The media is guilty of selective coverage.

In the Gaza Strip more than 600 lives and increasing, civilians and children as innocent as the victims of MH17, do not count as much because they are insignificant people. They are not the rich who can afford to fly high with the majority belonging to first word countries.

In Gaza we know the hand that deals the blow. Al Jazeera is one news channel that highlights the graphic images. The western media glosses over it. Why?

The big powers of the world prefer to talk and make statements and draw up resolutions while the innocent people are continuing to be massacred with impunity. It is easier to blame Hamas as a terrorist organization. In this case who is the bigger terrorist?

It is because the big powers have their own agendas while the Arab states are afraid of Israel. The Palestinians of Gaza are entrapped and isolated not only by Israel but also by the rich and comfortable Arabs and even by the West Bank.  The media downplays the tragedy but the world watches helplessly.

Israel has not learnt from its own holocaust and today one wonders if it is Israel and not the US that controls world power.

We in Malaysia are saddened by MH17 and also by MH 370 but let us not forget the helpless Palestinians in Gaza.
