I refer to the news story ' Uproar over new dog ownership guidelines '.

MPSJ is right in imposing the new rules and I strongly feel it should be emulated by other local authorities. Perhaps what MPSJ should also do is widen the coverage of the rules to include other pets especially exotic reptiles.

This move should be lauded, instead of condemned. It can foster better understanding among residents and indirectly enforces good neighbourliness. Families with pets now have a reason to say "hello" to at least their neighbours next door, if they haven't already.

I believe residents would not mind that their neighbours keep dogs if they can be assured that the animals will not create nuisance. Getting and giving consent is as good as an agreement.

After all, why are apartment and condominium dwellers barred from keeping pets? My neighbour's dog (and I do not know which one as I live in an apartment) pooed in front of my door four times a few weeks ago. How I wish I knew who the neighbour was.
