I agree with Peter Leong (' Strong opposition still needed ') that Malaysia need a strong opposition in Parliament in order to have checks and balances. BN's claim that they need a strong government in order to rule effectively is utter rubbish and nonsense.
The previous government led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad was almost on the brink of becoming dictatorial, without any Barisan Nasional member of parliament daring enough to point out any misdeed done by the government. Corruption, nepotism and cronyism were almost an integral part of the government.
With a handful of opposition members of parliament nothing much can be done by the opposition. Once I visited parliament and witnessed that the seats of the BN member of parliament were empty or even when they present, many of them were seen at sitting and chatting at the sofa outside the Dewan. They were not serious as member of parliament because they knew that they were the majority and the opposition had no impact.
I appeal to Malaysian voters of all races to ensure that we have a strong opposition in parliament after the next general election to ensure our welfare would be taken care of by the government.
