I refer to the letter to the media written by Hussaini Abdul Karim of Shah Alam, Selangor on Aug 22, 2014.

It saddens me to see the manner we conduct a national mourning day, is now being discussed like we are having a general election. Why are we Malaysians so split on every single day-to-day life issues?

Stop questioning if MH17 victims deserved full military honours or not. Its doing injustice to their families. Let the victims' souls rest in peace for once.

I was in front of TV throughout the KLIA  ceremony and I didn't see any overdoing. Was there a 21 gun salute given to the victims? Were there posthumous medals given to the victims?

It was just a sombre and solemn ceremony where their bodies were lifted from the planes onto hearses and driven away to the respective cemeteries in their respective hometowns.

Anything wrong with the fact that their coffins were draped with Malaysian flags and given the mark of respect? Did their families object to this ceremony?

That to me,shows that the governent felt sorry for them for sacrificing their lives due to some political problems in another nation.

And one may ask, did they fight a war like the Lahad Datu fallen soldiers? They may not have fught a war, but I feel they were in a war zone and they died in a crossfire, so that makes them a war victim, too.

Please be reminded that if anyone wants a similar military honours ceremony for Lahad Datu fallen soldiers, then do write to the government.

I am sure they will organise a similar scale ceremony. For now, put yourself in the shoes of the families and don't take anything away from them.

Dear fellow Malaysians, with a truly heavy heart, I shall just say that we shouldn't fight even on bereaved matters like this. Look at things positively.

The day of mourning can be used as a test of the level of racial harmony among people in times of crisis and emergency.

Regardless of race and religion, we are a nation in grief and in solidarity with one beat on Malaysia's saddest day in history.

We pray that the painful MH17 incident won't ever happen again.
