The Commission of Sabah Affairs (COSA) and the Pastors’ Fellowship of Kota Kinabalu (PFKK) would like to affirm the statement made by the president of the Sabah Council of Churches (SCC), Bishop Thomas Tsen Lip Tet, on Aug 29 regarding the message entitled ‘ Sabah churches to skip N-Day celebrations ’.

The churches in Sabah are not skipping Merdeka Day celebrations. The celebrations however will take the form of prayer for Sabah and Malaysia by all the churches during this Sunday’s service.

The call for prayer for all churches is also a response to the national mourning of the twin Malaysia Airlines (MAS) tragedies.

As this year’s Merdeka Day falls on a Sunday, COSA and PFKK together with SCC have agreed to encourage Christians in Sabah to hold a collective prayer in their respective churches. The prayers will continue for two weeks right until Sept 16 which is Malaysia Day.

COSA, PFKK and SCC have enjoyed friendly working relationship with DBKK in organising previous Merdeka Day celebrations and will continue to work together closely in future events.

PASTOR CHIN CHI KIONG is chairperson of the Commission of Sabah Affairs (COSA).
