Where else in the world does an Election Commission (EC) chairman come out in public days after a general election and requests for an independent probe into the vast irregularities of his own organisation, and the whole request just fizzles out without any action? Iran maybe? Or how about Pakistan? But certainly not in Malaysia!
Surely, surely here we cakap serupa bikin ! Pak Lah, I urge you to demonstrate your commitment to cleaning up the state of affairs. Many Malaysians are eager to see what the EC chairman has to say.
The very fact that the man himself requested for the probe to be independent, consist of opposition representatives and for the panel to report directly to parliament is enough reason to conclude that he has little faith in a mere 'within-the-system' investigation.
I sense extreme frustration from a man who has been pushed so far from the path of independence and fairness that he just wants to tell all. It is no longer a mere doubt in my mind that the election had instances of unfair practises and illegal conduct.
The question in my mind, and in the mind of many Malaysian today is how deep is the rot? How far did it go? Who were behind it? Was is just several isolated cases or was it a nationwide, concentrated effort to ensure a shockingly strong mandate for the ruling coalition?
Pak Lah, you have taken the mandate you just received with pride and jubilation, further promising to fulfil all your earlier promises. Let's not just make is all about promising, let's see action. You can't possibly take so much pride in the support you received and immediately set to work without first ensuring if the support was rigged!
I still maintain the trust I have in you, and am confident that any illegal act or manipulation was done without your knowledge. But as captain of the ship, it is your responsibility to check on your crew. It is pointless to be captain of a missionary ship with a crew of pirates. Cakap serupa bikin please!
Let's have an independent probe, see what happened, get rid of the bad apples and then surely we'll see if the rakyat truly invested in the ' Cemerlang, Gemilang, Terbilang ' manifesto.
