It was disturbing to read the letter from Making a killing of the wrong kind. I thought our government was portraying an image of a peace-loving nation to the world but suddenly now, we are part of a weapons manufacturing industry.
From the argument that the writer has made, it is easy for one to see that there is no market within Malaysia for these guns and there is no chance in hell that we can compete in the global weapons market.
I, too, wonder how the technology of making weapons is going to be transferred to Malaysians. Are we going to be given a course from A-Z on how to make guns? Will our local graduates acquire these skills?
Why do we need to know how to make weapons? Do we actually need people on the streets knowing how to make weapons? How long do you think it will take for these newly acquired skills to fall into the wrong hands?
Thanks to our brilliant defence minister, Malaysia is soon going to be a hub for terrorists, smugglers, drug dealers, pirates, gangsters and arms smugglers. The same kind of people we are trying hard to keep out of this country.
Can the minister guarantee that we will not attract unwanted guests once they know that we are manufacturing weapons? Will the greedy and ruthless weapons dealers say no to the large amounts of money that they will gain by selling these weapons to terrorist organisations?
How do you think the terrorists get their weapons in the first place? This is like sprinkling sugar around and hoping that no ants will come.
The future for this peace-loving nation is getting dimmer and dimmer by the day. I fear to even think where our nation will be in the next decade let alone when 2020 actually knocks on our doors.
Pak Lah how could you say yes to this? The trust of the people for a better nation is in your hands and by allowing such an industry to be based on our land, you have let us down. Economic benefits or not, this is wrong.
What is the point of your emergency OIC meeting when one day there is a big possibility that a bullet killing another Palestine child will be from a 'Made in Malaysia' gun?
