I refer to the letter Stop NS-bashing . It is easy to ask for NS to be given a chance but with so many incidents - including two deaths and an alleged rape case - being reported shouldn't it be reviewed now that the first session is over?

It is full of faults but a very noble intention which all Malaysians would like to have. Let's not rush into phase two of session as there is still a chance to re-plan and rectify the mistakes made in the programme.

Something tells me that those who ask for the NS to go on are not those whose offspring were there in the camps. But let's wipe out the negatives and proceed with the opportunity available to us now.

The one thing that makes me happy - if the newspapers reports are anything to go by - is that a majority of the NS trainees seemed to get along very well and the programme may yet bear fruit.

But it shouldn't be just for the duration of the programme. Once back into the real world, if employment opportunities as well as varsity prospects are still blocked due to one's skin colour, then the NS unity-building effort would have been a waste of money.
