'Hudud laws won’t affect non-Muslims' is a lie

I refer to the announcement by the Kelantan PAS government in their state assembly which confirms the implementation of hudud laws in their state next year. According to the Kelantan state exco member YB Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, hudud laws will be implemented in Kelantan notwithstanding objections from the non-Muslim community.

He also claimed that non-Muslims should not oppose hudud laws as it doesn’t affect them.

Gerakan Youth condemns the statement by the Kelantan PAS government representative which clearly disregard the views of non-Muslims in our country.

The allegation that hudud laws won’t affect non-Muslims is a blatant lie.

What would happen if a crime involves a Muslim and a non-Muslim? Which law would be applicable in determining such cases?

The move by PAS would result in two sets of criminal laws in our country and would lead to a constitutional crisis. There’s no provision for hudud laws under our federal constitution and was never agreed when Malaysia was formed.

It must be reminded that this issue is not about anyone against Islamic laws and principles. It’s a question of whether it would be practical to do so and should we forgo the principles in the federal constitution.

At this juncture, DAP and PKR had chosen to remain silent over Kelantan PAS government’s intention to implement hudud in the state. Both DAP and PKR had shown their true colours by continuing to partner PAS in Pakatan.

We urge DAP’s YB Lim Kit Siang and PKR’s YB Anwar Ibrahim to make their stand on this matter before it’s too late.

As per our legal notice to PAS in April this year, Gerakan Youth hereby reiterates our commitment to bring the matter to court if Kelantan PAS government proceeds to implement hudud laws in our country.

Our federal constitution must be defended.
