Enhancing the nation’s peace from childhood

The Penang Hindu Association (PHA) very exuberantly extends its warmest congratulations and heartfelt praises to Sekolah Kebangsaan Pykett Methodist, a primary school in George Town, Penang, for the grand function held in their premises encompassing all the children of different races in celebrating Deepavali with a variety of games, more in particular Deepavali cards drawing completion, Kolam drawing completion, Kolamattam, and a variety of fun-filled artistic competitions.

PHA and the Pykett School jointly organised the Deepavali Unity Get-Together. We very strongly appeal to the federal and state governments as well to implement immediately a festival celebrating activity in all the schools for the various festive occasions such as Deepavali, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Christmas, etc.

The main objective is to bring about from the very early ages the concept of muhibbah i.e. unity and sharing together the joy, happiness as well as achieving heights in art, drama, concert, music, traditions etc. Through the competitive and challenging activities, such unity will eventually lead across the borders of religion, races and exclusive community.

Eventually, these activities will enhance the efforts by the government to strengthen the ‘1Malaysia concept’ with unity as comprehensive as possible. Hence education in schools not only comprise of exams, but also the joy of living and working in unity.

We, the PHA, sincerely urge both the federal government as well as the Education Department to implement this concept by starting off with the festivity of Deepavali, which is light and enlightenment.

Even if it be initiated in a small way to explore the strength of the unity in the various schools where this concept is being implemented, it will definitely expand into a nationwide of brotherhood  and love for one another of all ages, especially when at festive celebration this is continuously  implemented by the government and the Education Department.

Implementing this programme not only enhances society’s morals and strength, thereby creating and developing  good citizens, but also enhances from childhood the nation’s peace as a whole.
