I refer to the letter by Ann Joo entitled Keadilan a Trojan horse for PAS .

A vast majority of the non-Muslim always have a wrong perception about PAS due to negative media propaganda by the Barisan Nasional. The freedom for religious and cultural practices allowed by PAS-controlled Kelantan is seldom highlighted.

The issue of an Umno administration not allowing non-Muslim military personnel to perform their religious obligations is a very surprising news. Ann Choo has to justify her claim with documented evidence.

But at the Kok Lanas Army camp in Kelantan, Sabahan Christian soldiers are ferried by the truck load to various churches in Kota Bharu every Friday. There is also Christmas carolling sessions at their living quarters during the Christmas festive season.

It is not fair to blame Anwar Ibrahim on the issue of non-Muslim soldiers not being allowed to perform their prayers in military camps. Commanding officers may have had their own reasons for not allowing the prayers.

The issue has been brought up before higher military authorities and Ann Choo's husband should know military rules and regulations - and he should have explained them to her rather than leaving her to remain unclear of the issue.

And on the mubaligh law passed by Selangor legislators - what had MCA, MIC and Gerakan state assemblypersons done at the Selangor state assembly with regards to the passing of this law?

If the law was passed by the Barisan Nasional, why blame Anwar and PAS? Why not Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Umno?

Many have forgotten that Anwar was the first Muslim statesman in Malaysia to initiate inter- faith dialogues to promote the mutual understanding among the various ethnic groups in Malaysia. He was the one who linked the Confucianism to the Islamic values to promote further unity among Malaysians.

As a result of his initiative, many inter-cultural activities mushroomed which eventually led to a greater understanding among the various races. Malaysia's cultural diversity should be viewed as an asset rather than being perceived with fear as a result of negative western media propaganda.

The non-Muslim community in Kelantan remember PAS for their moderate stand when facing the May 13, 1969 incident. Many Kelantanese Malays died in Kuala Lumpur during that darkest day of Malaysian history, but non-Muslim Kelantanese remained unscathed.

PAS is a political party which offers moral values, fair and just treatment to all people in accordance to the al-Quran and Hadith. The issue of having second-class citizens is not part of PAS' political agenda and one should not judge PAS by the sins committed by Umno.

Rational Malaysians have to be fair to Anwar - he is one of the victims of the ISA and the Malaysian political judiciary system. He deserves a place in our history. We should not be influenced by preconceived judgments.
