‘No more quota’ for solar feed-in tariff for 2015?

I have been informed by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) that there is no more quota for the application of solar feed-in tariff (FIT) for 2015 and onwards as I had been keen to install these solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with hopes of obtaining a reimbursement for the investment over the long term.

This means the monthly 1.6 percent surcharge for renewable energy (charged by TNB in the monthly power bills) is used for the benefit of others who have been successful, not for the consumer who wants to install PV system for himself or herself, since the quota is ‘finished’ for the foreseeable near future. The unsuccessful consumer will be paying indefinitely for those who have been successful.

If that was indeed the situation, the authorities should at least be freely allowing net metering, where power consumers can still install these PV systems and reduce their power bills. But I understand there are no ‘policies or plans’ for net metering.

I cannot understand the authorities’ lack of initiative in this matter, especially when many countries are freely allowing the use of PV systems and net metering to the reduce the  carbon footprint.

Would not power generation by private residences reduce the need for power generation by the authorities? Unless profit is the ulterior motive by the ‘powers that be’ - pun intended.

Moreover, why are there no plans for TNB to reduce the power rates now that petrol oil prices are down?

On one hand there is talking nonsense of green initiatives by the government, but on the other hand there is an absolute lack of initiative when the opportunity presents itself.

The sun shines on for everyone here in Malaysia  without a ‘quota’. But quotas are allegedly imposed by cronies and crooked systems in the government to enrich themselves using power given freely by mother nature.

As for me I will not be paying the 1.6 percent surcharge for renewable energy as long as the sun continues to shine.
