Here are several reasons why Khairy Jalamludin should not contest as Umno Youth deputy head's post at the upcoming party polls:

It will perpetuate the notion that Umno practices nepotism, a fact that is vehemently denied by leaders but allowed to flourish and take root in the party.

Khairy is a greenhorn in Umno with less than five years of membership. There are many other senior, loyal and more deserving candidates available for the picking in the movement.

What has Khairy contributed to the advancement of the Malays, in particular the youth in the movement? There has not been a single, intellectually sound idea that Khairy has offered for the Malays.

Graduating from Cambridge or Oxford is a not a free ticket to leadership in this country. It should not be greed that governs one's decision towards political power but heartfelt sincerity for the welfare of the people and the country. So far, Khairy has not shown this trait.

An overambitious person like Khairy will only damage the party in the long run. He seems to be manipulating his father-in-law's position as the prime minister to further his political agenda in the party.

Allowing Khairy to contest the number two position in Umno Youth reflects the lethargy and malaise that the movement is now facing. One should just pave the way for him just because he is the son-in-law of the party leader?

If this is the logic of Umno Youth leaders, then the future is rather bleak for the promotion of healthy democracy in this country.
