I would like share my two cents opinion in respond to Why Anwar must play by the rules by Suresh Gnasegarah .

1) Suresh keeps implying that Anwar has breached the social contract so some of his rights must be removed. Yet he mentioned that: 'Nobody in their right mind will be able to deny that Anwar is a political prisoner.'

Therefore, he should agree that we can't compare Anwar to ordinary prisoners since he is not an ordinary prisoner but a political prisoner. So, how can he stress that: 'In the eyes of Malaysian law, Anwar is no different from any other ordinary felon and rightfully so?'

Many political prisoners from China have been allowed to seek overseas medical treatment before finishing serving their terms in prison.

2) The issue of '... a class-based system allowed to flourish in Malaysian prisons where rich inmates get better medical facilities overseas when compared to the poorer lads' does not exist as Suresh himself agrees that Anwar is a political prisoner.

I would agree that other 'ordinary prisoners' should have no right to seek overseas treatment even if they are rich unless the required treatment is not available here. Therefore, the problem of not '... costing the system dearly' does not arise.

3) Suresh argued that Anwar is not an ordinary citizen but an ordinary prisoner. I would say the correct statement should be Anwar is an ordinary citizen but not an ordinary prisoner as we all, including Suresh, are clear that he is a political prisoner.

4) If comparing the prime minister wife's right to seek treatment overseas and Anwar's right to the same is irrelevant, then it is also irrelevant to compare '... Cambodia or the Indian subcontinent where corruption is rampant' to Germany.

Why must we suspect that the German doctor may reach a deal with Anwar even before it happen but yet overlook the many 'deals' that have taken place in sending Anwar to jail?

5) If 'Allowing Anwar to receive special treatment is in breach of Parti Keadilan's Rakyat's long-term ideals for social justice and equality for all citizens', then putting him in jail after a flawed trial is definitely a breach of social justice and equality for all citizens!

I wonder why Suresh doesn't realise this? I also don't agree that 'Reformation of the system comes when you play by the rules no matter how unfair it may seem to be'.

If this is the case, then there will be nobody asking for democracy as no government has willingly allowed its citizens the right to peaceful demonstration (except probably the USA) and that there will be no direct elections for the Indonesian president now.

We also can't compare Anwar directly to Nelson Mandela or Mahatma Gandhi as Anwar's case is not a racial struggle - as opposed to the struggles of the latter two.
