Better to be Major Zaidi than Corporal Sirul

It was reported that Sirul Azhar Umar , one of the accused in the murder of Altantuya pleaded with the court not to sentence him to death as he was merely acting to protect unnamed people. “I have no reason to cause hurt what more take the life of a victim in such a cruel manner.” he said.

Unfortunately for Sirul and his partner Azilah Hadri, you were the ones who are said to have pulled the trigger. You may have been acting on instructions but you abducted the woman and brutally murdered her. Of course you were trained to do that and you were merely acting on orders from higher up.

Let this be a lesson to the many civil servants including the men in uniform.

I have heard so many times spineless people saying I was merely acting on instructions from higher up or the many politicians who after their glory days come forward to say how they had been forced to do the bad deeds.

That’s lame. Don’t wait till you have nothing to lose to stand up for your morals and principle. The problem is that we are always so afraid of losing monetary or financial gain. A well known comedian would advise you: “Do the right thing, be a man.”

That is why I believe Major Zaidi Ahmad the whistleblower in the un-indelible ink fiasco should be honoured in t he court of public opinion as a hero. He acted according to his conscience and as a result lost everything namely his career. However he gained the respect of all justice loving Malaysians. It's better to be a Zaidi than a Sirul.

So for all those in civil service, don’t throw your religious beliefs and conscience away when your seniors ask you to do something against god and the law of t he land. Even if he may be the prime minister or king because in the end, you would be left to hang (pardon the pun) high and dry, all alone.
