Lim, fulfil earlier vows before pledging no GST

Lim Guan Eng is yet again making another empty promise when he haughtily promised to abolish the Goods and Services Tax (GST) immediately should Pakatan came to power in the next general election.

Why didn’t Lim come out to declare his objection openly when Pakatan supremo Anwar Ibrahim told reporters when he attended a Parliament session on Oct 31, 2013 that GST was an effective and transparent taxation mechanism and he never objected to its implementation?

Why is there a sudden enlightenment for Lim to make such a promise during this Permatang Pauh by-election? His intention is crystal clear-fishing for votes. But we are not sure if this was DAP or Pakatan’s stand.

We remember vividly how DAP had vehemently assured the people that the controversial hudud enactment would never be implemented. But today, the Rocket has no answer to PAS’ hudud advancement.

Lim had also undertaken to abolish highway toll charges but after seven years of governing Penang, nothing had been done. If DAP cannot even do it in a Pakatan-led state,  what else can be expected from this party?

If Lim is sincere in wanting to resolve problems, he should first fulfil his many promises and answer the related questions, which among others are:

  • When is the local government election going to take place?
  • Why are we paying for parking during weekends?
  • Why are there extended hours for parking charges till midnight?
  • Where is the haphazardly-announced tiger park?
  • The BlackBerry factory in Penang?
  • The Excellent Education Centre in Balik Pulau?
  • Where is the US$100 million Batu Kawan golf course?
The inflow of Chinese votes back to Barisan Nasional in the recent Rompin by-election is a good manifestation of the community’s detestation against PAS hudud. It should be emulated by all Chinese, especially the Permatang Pauh voters.
