Until I read Hishamudin Rais's article , I did not realise that it has been four years since my wife and I left our three-month-old baby with a maid in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur so that we could join the reformasi demonstration in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

So Anwar Ibrahim is free now. He will certainly be tempted to rejoin Umno to 'change it from within'. The phrase sounds familiar because it was used to explain Anwar's decision to join Umno when he was an Abim activist many years back.

My view is that Anwar will lack credibility if he rejoins Umno. If Umno is indispensable then Anwar should have urged all his supporters to remain in Umno even after he was arrested.

Why did he form Keadilan? Was Keadilan formed only for the purpose of freeing Anwar and all their cries of reformasi humbug, as claimed by the ex-PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad?

I urge Anwar to sacrifice any political expediency he may have by rejoining Umno. Instead, Anwar should help shape a two-party political system in Malaysia.
