I feel I must take issue with Hantuimc's letter on racism in the West from his UK experience.

One cannot just take a case of two Chinese being attacked in Aberdeen, him being called 'a chink' in a fast food shop and the Stephen Lawrence case , to jump to the conclusion that there is racism in the West while everything is sunshine and roses in KL, where he hopes to return.

As a medical man, he should know that Britain's latest National Health Service figures show that the majority of doctors in the NHS (I think 70 percent) are non-white. Chinese doctors, meanwhile, consistently figure prominently in the media.

London's Gerrard Street is Europe's premier Chinatown, with the active support of the Westminster Council. The mayor actually organised a Chinese New Year celebration in Trafalgar Square and announced a Chinatown East in Stratford.

Maybe Hantuimc has not heard of the Pearl Foundation in London, a charity formed to raise the profile of the Chinese in the UK. One of the recipients of their award was Dr Henry Lee for his work on traditional Chinese medicine.

I have actually sat through a UK Employment Tribunal case on racial discrimination involving a Malaysian and an Arab. The system is fast, fair and equitable.

Hantuimc should get down to Kuala Lumpur once in a while and read the bumiputera-discount column of a new property launch advert or try getting his kid with four As in STPM into Universiti Malaya's medical faculty or apply for power producer Tenaga Nasional's shares (not on a pink form).

Maybe it's just the English weather that is getting him down.
