I find Umno Youth head Hishammuddin Hussein Onn's blast against Anwar Ibrahim at the ongoing party assembly ill couched and extraordinarily vile.

Some of his claims such as Anwar being a traitor to the Malays hardly hold up unless, of course, one equates Dr Mahathir Mohamad as representing all Malays.

And what about the likes of Ku Li or even Pak Lah? Weren't they as equally treacherous but yet had been welcomed back to the fold.

In politics 'never say never' is a commonly bandied about phrase and with good reason too. Going overboard as Hishammuddin has and with very little ammunition besides, is politically naive and typical of the man who has always shown that he is long on rhetoric but short of ideas.

It is not too difficult to foresee that in the not too distant future, if Anwar is not locked up again by then, Umno will be ready to welcome him back with open arms.

Anwar has said that he has never asked to return, and that should be that. Harping on the issue of not accepting him back only makes Umno seem afraid of shadows.
