We are shocked that the Penang state executive council meeting yesterday adopted three resolutions, as announced by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, which had no relevance whatsoever to the people’s welfare. Clearly the meeting can be considered as an entry into the Malaysia Book of Records as the most unaccountable meeting!

The exco meeting serves as a platform to deliberate on the welfare and benefits of the people, but somehow it turned out to be a completely time-wasting and ridiculous gathering where the resolutions adopted were not for the people’s well-being. In fact, no agenda items benefiting the people had been put forward for debate.

It seems that Lim is unable to separate party and government affairs and repeatedly misused the government system to fine-tune party affairs.

The three resolutions adopted this time were self-contradictory and meaningless: First, opposition to the PAS muktamar’s resolution to sever ties with DAP; second, acceptance that the existence of Pakatan has ended following the said PAS resolution; and third, to continue with state government’s policy in accordance with the 2009 amended version of Pakatan’s Common Policy Framework, which had garnered an unprecedented 68 percent of Penangites’ support.

We are puzzled that since the state government had accepted that Pakatan is dead, then why is the first resolution on severing of ties even taken? And how does the third resolution to continue with the Pakatan Common Policy Framework make sense?

We want Lim to immediately stop using the exco meetings to manage party affairs and stop mixing up party with government. DAP should also stop treating its partner PKR as puppets. Instead, the functionalities of the exco meeting must be immediately restored to benefit the people.
