It is so nice to know that Malaysia has a minister who oversees who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. Perhaps this is a first for the world. Malaysia boleh!

I am confused by what the minister said and what I have read about the Prophet saying that people should tell their leaders off if they are doing the wrong things.

People who will stand up and call a spade a spade are always in the minority. The Prophet surely knew this. So when He advised the people to speak up against leaders who are not on the straight path, he would have known that only a minority would make noise about it. Did he mean to send this minority to hell by deceiving them that it was honourable to speak against wrongdoings by their leaders?

Silence the noisy minority by all means, but not by childishly invoking the psychological fear of going to hell. Anyway, has anyone gone to hell or to heaven and come back to tell us stories about these places that are in the imagination or perception of the living?

Silence the noisy minority by answering their questions, not with some nonsensical gibberish but with facts and figures which can ‘masuk akal’, or make sense. A minister was upset that people did not accept answers given about the 1MDB affair. Why should they if the answers only raise more questions which are not answered?

Making sense of something is not the holy prerogative of those in elected office, but of those who are affected by the decisions of those in elected office.

So don’t chastise the noisy minority that asks questions; don’t threaten them with a passport to hell. The noisy minority is not going to buy the fairy tale about going to hell for asking questions about matters that affect them one way or another, or affect the future of the country that they love. That is their prerogative. Even if it can be proven that the noisy minority will go to hell, I believe they will rather choose to go to hell than remain silent.

If those in elected office find the going tough in the face of questions by the noisy few seeking accountability, then they should just step aside and hand over the mantle to those who can face the noisy few and their questions.

Imagine teachers telling the noisy few students who ask questions that they will go to hell to hide the fact that they actually do not know the answers to the pupils’ questions. This creates ‘katak dibawah tempurung’ of the children as their inborn inquisitiveness is stifled and acquiring knowledge curtailed.
