I refer to the article AirAsia urges govt to turn Subang airport into low-cost hub .

While I am a firm believer in low-cost carriers, I urge the authorities not to turn Subang Airport into a low-cost hub to be used for regularly scheduled flights.

The authorities should consider the fact that there have been numerous housing estates coming up all around the airport ever since the international terminal shifted to KLIA.

Housing areas like Glenmarie, Ara Damansara, Sungai Buloh, etc are being developed meaning that what was previously the 'buffer zone' around the airport now comprise housing areas. There are thousands of people living there with more moving in. The area is still being developed as can be seen from the NKVE.

Without the buffer zone, will it be safe for the residents, if the airport is used for scheduled flights?

Will the noise pollution cause problems? Is it fair to those thousands who have bought their houses there looking forward to tranquility?

Imagine the nightmare of hundreds of flights traversing the skies above the whole area throughout the day (and possibly late into the night). This needs to be taken into consideration.
