I refer to your report Rafidah defends AP permits for auto imports .

I wonder how the government can justify continuing with the issuance of approved permits for importing automobiles especially when the permit holders are people connected with the minister responsible and Umno.

It is well-known that Rafidah Aziz's son-in-law is a director of Naza Motor Trading Sdn Bhd, the top beneficiary of the system. Someone calculated that the APs given to Naza each year are worth at least a hundred million ringgit. With a head start like that, is it any wonder that Naza became super rich within a short period?

Rafidah's defence of the system for 'socio-economic reasons' to help poorer Malays catch up with the wealthier Chinese minority is so lame that the people at the WTO must be laughing their heads off.

These 'poorer Malays' are in fact just a selected few who are given APs to make some money besides being given the chance to own Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis with which they can zoom up and down the North-South highway with impunity.

Their stable of luxury cars can even make some of our sultans green with envy, not to mention the man in the street.

Is it any wonder that the ordinary Malay - rather than the Chinese - is looking to Anwar Ibrahim as a beacon of hope? Hope that the days of the unfair NEP will be numbered if he comes to power.

Unless our prime minister walks the talk before it is too late.
