  • It should worry all Malaysians that 100 were detained without a proper legal basis and were subject to inhumane abuse and humiliation during that infamous raid by the Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan.

Malaysian politicians and government organisations abroad are falsely portraying Malaysia as a multi-racial oasis and a role model. It could not be further from the truth. In which other multi-racial country are almost half of the population 'banned' from commenting on social issues involving their fellow countrymen?

It is the duty of all Malaysians to comment when their Malaysian brothers and sisters are being abused by either their own government or a foreign aggressor. In South Africa, there were brave white people who stood by their black brothers in the times of the apartheid oppression.

When you look closer at it, non-Muslims are also affected by Jawi actions. For instance, the mental anguish of many non-Muslims in seeing their dear friends being abused in front of their very eyes. Worst of all, Jawi is a government organisation and non-Muslims are funding it through their taxes.

Many bright, young and educated non-Malays have already left Malaysia. With an ever increasing tendency for religious tyranny in Malaysia, even young, bright and educated Muslims will leave for places where they will be free to live a life free of religious oppression.

Those people detained at the nightclub that night were no 'misguided youth'. Most are educated adults in their 20s and 30s who know more about this world of ours than the narrow-minded, inward looking Jawi officers.

They know very well what they want and what the alternatives are. When they realise that the world out there is better than their own Malaysia, many will leave - just like their non-Muslim brothers and sisters have done for years before them.

That will affect Malaysia and her population both Muslim and non-Muslim. So why not comment?
