I must say I am following the debate between supporters and opponents of homosexuality here with both interest and concern. Malaysiakini must be commended for giving space to both sides of the divide, although homosexuals are clearly a social minority in the numerical sense.

I think mainstream society should not persecute homosexuals as long as their activities are conducted in privacy without involving incest, pedophilia, bestiality or rape (including statutory rape) and other criminal acts.

In an age for human rights and freedom of speech, opponents to homosexuality certainly have their right to air their opinions without infringing upon the privacy of any individual.

Supporters of homosexuals, meanwhile, should respect the right to free speech by not labelling those who disagree with them as bigots, Nazis and what-have-you.

Let all show decent respect for both religion and science because these together with the institution of normal heterosexual family - are the time-tested and foundational pillars of established human civilisation irrespective of race, culture, religion, language and gender identity.
