The letter Sulawesi spat: Who is to be 'ganyang-ed'? refers.

I still remember when Apcet II conference was being held in Kuala Lumpur in 1996 as there was a big hue and cry, especially from the establishment. Umno Youth was at the forefront saying that the meeting shouldn't take place as it would 'hurt the feelings' of Jakarta.

So with that, an unruly group of people had a cheek to storm the hotel where the Apcet II conference being held, forcing its cancellation. The foreign delegates had to be deported while the local delegates were arrested by police and held in lock-ups for a number of days.

Now, almost nine years later, our flags are being burned in Jakarta. Should we take care of our neighbour's feelings now? Should we stand in solidarity with our neighbours now?

I hope Umno Youth will be able to reflect on its action nine years ago. The way I see it, we are reaping what we sowed and getting a taste of our own medicine. Our blind support for a corrupt and a militaristic regime has backfired right into our faces.
