I refer to the report that the government has approved the import of 100,000 Pakistani men to work in all sectors in Malaysia, including restaurants and deep-sea fishing. I think the government should suspend and review this decision.
Our priority and preference should be given to the Sri Lankan people, many of whom who are suffering from unemployment and poverty as the result the recent tsunami disaster.
They are in more pressing need of economic and moral support than the Pakistanis. Moreover, Pakistan's surplus labour can be absorbed by the oil-rich Arab countries as Pakistan is geographically closer to the Arab states and the Middle East.
Sri Lanka is also nearer to Malaysia. So, the transportation cost of workers from Sri Lanka would be much cheaper.
