In the cabinet reshuffle, Member of Parliament for Jerlun, Othman Aziz, was appointed Deputy Finance Minister, whereas Member of Parliament for Silam, Nasrun Datu Mansur, was appointed Deputy Minister in charge of Commodities and Industries.

Apart from that, MP for Tanjung Karang, Noh Omar, who recently led Selangor Umno to victory in Sungai Besar, has also been appointed back to the cabinet.

It seems glaringly obvious the reshuffle was a political strategy to suppress the influence of the Jerlun Umno chief who was recently sacked from the party (Mukhriz Mahathir) and suspended Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal who is also head of Silam Umno division.

Challenger on June 24, 2016 at 5.02pm ran a Twitter poll named ‘Malaysia Referendum’, determining the aspirations of people on whether they prefer a #Jibmain (Najib Remain) or #Jibxit (Najib Exit). It lasted for 72 hours, ending right after the cabinet reshuffle announcement this afternoon.

The results were glaringly at 94 percent in favour of #Jibxit, as opposed to 6 percent #Jibmain, with almost 14,379 respondents voting.

In March, a similar poll was done with 50,971 respondents. Ninety-two percent voted for Najib Abdul Razak to step down.

Albeit being not conclusive as it is limited to Twitter users, it serves as an indicator that the odds are stacked against Najib.

Whilst the cabinet reshuffle was solely at the discretion of the prime minister, the polls were open to the public, including Najib supporters, to vote.

The youths, who make up most of the social media sphere, are fed up of the antics of Prime Minister Najib.

He must step down and account for the 1MDB misdeeds alleged against him.
