PKR to stand together with Guan Eng through these hard times

Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Lim Guan Eng, has categorically denied any wrongdoings towards the accusations thrown against him by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). We believe him and as coalition partners, will stand together with him through these hard times.

The two charges, one regarding the change of use for a piece of land in Balik Pulau and the purchase of his house in Pinhorn Road are but a political persecution against the Penang chief minister. One by one, our opposition leaders are being dragged to court and charged, while the real conspirators behind the RM2.6 billion scandal remain free. The intention is clear - to pave the way for an easy win for BN-Umno in the next general election.

Just recently, Abu Kassim Mohamed requested to end his service as the Chief Commissioner of MACC. We cannot help but suspect that it has something to do with the heavy-handed tactic used to humiliate the chief minister of Penang.

Yesterday, news of his arrest was published on the front pages of every major newspaper. This creates the impression of guilt when the CM should be considered innocent until proven guilty. The way he was escorted out of Komtar where he was having a meeting was aimed to shame the CM in the eyes of the public.

Even the RM1 million bail amount is unjustified. Khir Toyo’s bail was only set at RM750,000 for a real and far more serious offence. Wanita PKR will help DAP to our best ability with our limited resources.

Due this this arrest, BN-Umno has provoked an uproar and angered the rakyat even more. This is especially so when the CM was detained overnight at the MACC before being produced in court. This was uncalled for as the CM would not have absconded under any circumstances. As YAB Guan Eng said: “I’d rather die standing than to live on bended knees.”

Two nights ago, the gathering outside the MACC proves that the people’s power is indeed greater than any biased federal government arm. We need to immediately remove Najib Abdul Razak and his gang of new ‘Yes-men’.

Should the general election be held this year or even the next, let us all take this opportunity to kick BN-Umno out once and for all. The spirit of reformasi lives on. Bebas Lim Guan Eng. Bebas Anwar.
