The report Ministry backs down from Sexual Harassment Act refers.

We would like to clarify that during the meeting with the Ministry for Women, Family and Community Development, the Joint Action Group for Violence Against Women (JAG-VAW) had requested for the progress of the Sexual Harassment Bill.

The ministry informed us that the cabinet had decided to amend the labour laws instead of having a Sexual Harassment Act. It is therefore inaccurate to say that the ministry 'withdrew its support' for the bill.

The All-Women's Action Society (Awam) would like to set the record straight in that the amendment of the labour laws is a cabinet decision and not the decision of the Ministry for Women, Family and Community Development.

The writer is the alliance building manager of Awam.
