Lately there has been an indefinite number of ‘I Love...’ messages. My concern is that they are sudden bursts. As a country moving towards developed status, we should nurture this very pleasing trait.

Honestly, I wish the outpouring of this feeling is endless. The number one song in the Top 50 Love Songs of All Time (based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart) is ‘Endless Love’. It has in its lyrics “And love... I’ll be a fool for you... I’m sure... You know I don’t mind... Whoooooa, you know I don’t mind”.

When someone is in love, they can be a fool or even make a fool of themselves.

Then, Bryan Adams in ‘Everything I Do I Do It For You’ have these as part of the lyrics - “Everything I do, darling. You will see it’s true”. Queen called it ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ - “She gives me hot and cold fever... Then she leaves me in a cool cool sweat”.

Tina Turner replied ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ - “I’ve been taking on a new direction... But I have to say... I’ve been thinking about my own protection... It scares me to feel this way”. The Bee Gees wanted confirmation, ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ - “I really need to learn... Cause we’re living in a world of fools... Breaking us down... When they all should let us be”.

Mariah Carey advised, ‘Love Takes Time - “To heal when you’re hurting so much... Couldn’t see that I was blind”.

Stevie Wonder proposed to be a ‘Part-Time Lover’ - “But if there's some emergency... Have a male friend to ask for me... So then she won’t peek it’s really you my part-time lover”.

Being righteous, ‘The Righteous Brothers said ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling' - “Now there’s no welcome look in your eyes when I reach for you... And now you’re starting to criticise the things I do”.

So Malaysians, Elvis Presley had cautioned us to be careful with ‘A thing called love’ - “It can lift you up, it can put you down... Take your world and turn it all around”.

My other concern is that too many people are confessing to one person, a male. Further, convention has it that the outpouring is usually from a male towards a female. What is alarming here is not only thousands are making the confession but a good majority, from males!

To love must have a good reason. A true secret to love is that love has no secrets and no lies. Even when the secret comes out you can deceive it. Maybe if love had secrets, only the people in love will know and not the public. It is better to know and be disappointed than to never know and always wonder.

Fascination should not become an obsession

It is all right to love but the fascination should not become an obsession.

Just to test that loving feeling upon Malaysians... how do you rate Malaysians when we are behind the steering wheels or when we log onto social media?

According to a Reader’s Digest survey on how polite or courteous are people in 35 cities around the world (July 2007 issue), people in Kuala Lumpur are some of the least courteous or least polite. Kuala Lumpur ranked 33, well below Singapore, Jakarta and Hong Kong, let alone the western countries.

That was nearly 10 years ago. Have we changed or improve for the better? Or Malaysians will say that is ‘The Way I Am’ - Eminem. Sorry, I cannot show the lyrics here...

By the way, if our love is so deep and love has no secrets and no lies, the big question is... why is the auditor-general’s report still a secret?
