With regards to your report Chinese federation slams Japan's UN bid , I am surprised at the ethnocentrism prevalent in Malaysia in this 21st century.

This emotions evoked have nothing to do with cultural integrity, cultural dignity or compassion, but based on basic tribalism. Doesn't the local Chinese federation know about the murder of the hundreds of thousands of Tibetans and their torture ? Tibet wasn't Han Chinese. Their language is based upon Pali and Sanskrit. Today their culture is decimated

Why are the local Chinese Buddhists and other peace lovers silent? Which regime do you think armed the Khmer Rouge which led to the genocide dubbed as the 'killing fields' of Cambodia where four million of a soft, gentle culture were cruelly killed?

Their sin was to be educated and cultured as bourgeois. To literally add insult to injury, China decided later to punish Vietnam with war when the latter tried to oust the Khmer Rouge. Today, China is also directly arming the Sudanese Arabs who are committing atrocities to the Muslim Africans as we speak.

Why? For oil and conspicuous consumption. The United Nations is paralysed because of China's veto power in the UN Security Council which prevents effective assessment and mobilisation of aid to Sudan.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands die and suffer as we reminisce about history. If you want to play in that court, why, let's connect the dots even further.

China has armed Pakistan to the hilt with nuclear missile technology and historically hasn't been keen on India's aspiration for a seat on the Security Council. What's the commonality with Pakistan, North Korea and Sudan? Are these peace-loving or rogue states?

Isn't it the art of war to engage a proxy to contain a perceived rival rather than to aggress directly? It's certainly a shrewd way to contain rivals by distracting their attention.

These are all well-documented facts, not interpretations. What's more unlike World War II is that these events took place later in the 20th century and are closer in time and place to our generation than that of our parents' over 60 years ago.

And they're still continuing. Many of these reprehensible henchmen and women of the Cultural Revolution in China are still the elite of Communist China and are even running business and state owned enterprises.

Many of China's real estate and commodities millionaires have strong connections to the Communist Party and it's a well-known fact that 50 percent of all the foreign direct investment into China originates from overseas Chinese via a 'round tripping mechanism' that earns tax concessions.

Is it a wonder then that money is the motive for the dragon - dressed in sheep's clothing - to win favours?
